The Design Process

The Purpose of the Design Process is to produce a set of independent relations of tables. This leads to normalization which constitutes a well-structured relation. A well structured relation contains a minimum amount of redundancy. Redundancies may result in errors or inconsistencies (called anomalies) when a user attempts to update the data in the table. There are three types of anomalies: insertion, deletion, and modification.

• Step 6: Grouping primary keys and attributes
• Step 7: Database Structure

• Step 9: Adding attributes
• Step 10: Eliminate all links
• Step 11: Relational database
• Step 12: Relational extension
